The Christian life is a marathon not a sprint. There is no quick process to living a holy life. We constantly have to deal with the carnal desires of the flesh. But one thing I know is that consistency in daily communion with God eases the process. The marathon is no longer an arduous task but rather a journey alongside my Savior. He coaches me and cheers me on as I run my race of faith. He strengthens me when I feel fatigued and think I can’t go any further. It’s a daily process with the Holy Spirit. He keeps me focused on the end goal, which is eternity. II Corinthians 4:16-17 says, “Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.” Philippians 3:13-14 says, “Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
The Lord keeps us looking up and forward so we don’t get distracted by the carnal things of this world, which are temporary and passing away. II Timothy 4:8 says, “Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.” When I was an athlete I trained daily. I was motivated by the possibility of winning a competition. With God, it is not a possibility of winning. We absolutely definitely win the prize of eternal life through Christ. We just need to stay the course and remain in Him, day by day.
Prayer
